Three-phase power.

Single-phase is what most houses have and it runs most things. Some things it doesn't: big welders, compressors, cool rooms, large pumps, machinery with motors above a few kilowatts. Kayden installs three-phase circuits, outlets and boards where a property already has three-phase supply, and tells you straight if it doesn't.

In short

Three-phase power runs equipment single-phase can't: large welders, air compressors, cool rooms and big pumps. We install three-phase circuits, outlets and boards on properties around Dungog, Gresford and the Hunter that already have three-phase supply.

If the property only has single-phase coming in, getting three-phase means an application to the network provider and sometimes a new service. Kayden can scope it, tell you what's involved and handle the electrical side once the supply is there.

What the job involves

  • Three-phase sub-mains and distribution boards
  • Three-phase outlets and isolators for welders, compressors and machinery
  • Motor circuits with the right protection
  • Balancing loads across phases so one isn't doing all the work
  • Checking whether your existing supply can carry what you're planning

When you need it

  • A new machine, compressor or cool room needs a three-phase plug
  • Single-phase equipment is struggling or tripping under load
  • You're building a workshop and want it done once

What changes the price

  • Whether three-phase is already at the property
  • Distance from the main board to where you need it
  • The number of outlets and the size of the machinery
  • Any board upgrade needed to carry the extra circuits

What NSW requires

  • Three-phase equipment needs proper isolation and protection matched to the load
  • Supply changes at the street or meter involve the network provider, and network-side work is restricted to Accredited Service Providers. Kayden can tell you the parts he can and can't do
  • A Certificate of Compliance covers the installation

What Kayden needs from you to quote

  • A photo of your meter box and main switchboard
  • The nameplate of the machinery you want to run
  • Where it's going

Questions about three-phase power

How do I know if my property has three-phase power?

Look in the meter box: three-phase usually has three main fuses or a three-pole main switch instead of one. The easiest way is to text Kayden a photo of the meter box and switchboard and he'll tell you.

What needs three-phase?

Large welders, air compressors, cool rooms, big pumps and workshop machinery with larger motors. Most household appliances run fine on single-phase.

Can you add three-phase if I only have single-phase?

The supply upgrade needs an application to the network provider, and network-side work has to be done by an Accredited Service Provider. Kayden can tell you the parts he can and can't do, and explain the steps.
