Power points and lighting.

Most houses were wired for how people lived decades ago: one power point per room and a single light in the middle of the ceiling. Kayden adds and moves power points, installs LED downlights and feature lighting, puts in outdoor and security lights, and wires switches so the room works the way you use it.

Lighting is the job where good advice saves money. The right colour temperature, the right number of downlights, and dimming where it's wanted make more difference than spending more on fittings.

What the job involves

  • New and relocated power points, including USB and weatherproof outdoor outlets
  • LED downlights, battens and pendants, with dimming where you want it
  • Outdoor, sensor and security lighting
  • Ceiling fans with light and remote
  • Replacing old halogen downlights that run hot
  • Two-way and multi-way switching so you're not walking back across the room

When you need it

  • Power boards and double adaptors everywhere
  • Halogen downlights that blow globes and heat the ceiling
  • Dark kitchens, dark sheds, dark driveways
  • A renovation that's changed where the furniture goes

What changes the price

  • The number of points and fittings
  • Access through ceilings and walls, and whether walls are brick or plaster
  • Whether circuits have capacity or new ones are needed
  • The fittings you choose

What NSW requires

  • New points and lighting circuits need safety switch protection
  • Outdoor fittings must be rated for weather exposure
  • Downlights have clearance requirements near insulation
  • A Certificate of Compliance covers the new work

What Kayden needs from you to quote

  • A photo or two of the rooms, and a note of where you'd like points and lights
  • Whether you've already chosen fittings or want recommendations

Questions about power points and lighting

Can you replace halogen downlights with LEDs?

Yes. LED downlights use a fraction of the power, run far cooler, and remove the heat risk old halogens pose near ceiling insulation. Kayden checks the clearance to insulation while he's up there.

Can I add power points to an existing room?

Yes. A new point usually runs from an existing circuit if it has capacity, or from a new circuit at the board if it doesn't. Every new point gets safety switch protection.

What colour light should I choose?

Warm white suits bedrooms and living areas. Neutral or cool white suits kitchens, laundries, workshops and sheds where you need to see detail. Kayden can suggest fittings room by room.
