Questions about ceiling fans and smoke alarms
Can a ceiling fan go where there's only a light?
Usually. Kayden checks the ceiling can carry the fan, fixes it to the framing rather than the plaster, and wires it to the existing circuit or a new one, with wall or remote control.
How often should smoke alarms be replaced?
Every ten years, or by the date printed on the alarm. Test them monthly with the button, and replace the battery yearly in alarms that aren't hardwired.
Do smoke alarms need to be hardwired in NSW?
In new homes and major renovations, yes, hardwired and interconnected. In existing homes battery alarms can comply, but interconnected hardwired alarms are safer because they all sound when one does.
