Ovens, cooktops and appliances.

Ovens, cooktops, range hoods and some dishwashers and air conditioners are hard-wired, which means a licensed electrician has to connect them. Kayden connects new appliances, replaces old ones, and adds the circuits needed when a bigger oven or an induction cooktop needs more than the old wiring can give.

Induction cooktops are the common one: they often need a larger circuit than the ceramic cooktop they replace, and that's worth knowing before the appliance arrives.

What the job involves

  • Connecting ovens, cooktops, range hoods and other hard-wired appliances
  • New or upgraded circuits for induction cooktops and larger ovens
  • Isolators where the standard requires them
  • Disconnection and reconnection during kitchen renovations

When you need it

  • A new oven or cooktop sitting in its box
  • A kitchen renovation moving the appliances
  • A cooktop that trips the board or an oven that won't heat

What changes the price

  • Whether the existing circuit is big enough
  • Distance from the board to the kitchen if a new circuit is needed
  • Access behind cabinets

What NSW requires

  • Hard-wired appliances must be connected by a licensed electrician in NSW
  • Cooking appliances need a circuit sized to their rating and, for most, an isolating switch nearby
  • A Certificate of Compliance covers the connection

What Kayden needs from you to quote

  • A photo of the appliance rating plate, usually inside the oven door or under the cooktop
  • A photo of the switchboard

Questions about ovens, cooktops and appliances

Can I install an oven or cooktop myself?

Not if it's hard-wired. In NSW, connecting a hard-wired appliance is electrical work that must be done by a licensed electrician. Plug-in appliances you can plug in yourself.

Will an induction cooktop work on my existing circuit?

Sometimes. Many induction cooktops need a bigger circuit than the cooktop they replace. Send Kayden a photo of the new cooktop's rating plate and your switchboard before it's delivered.

What do you need to quote an appliance connection?

A photo of the appliance's rating plate, usually inside the oven door or under the cooktop, and one of your switchboard.
